David Copperfield to End 25-Year MGM Grand Residency on April 30

The illusionist bids farewell to the Las Vegas Strip after performing for more than 7 million people — and teases the largest project of his career.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, March 6, 2026 — David Copperfield is closing the curtain on one of the most storied residencies in Las Vegas history. MGM Grand announced Thursday night that the legendary illusionist will perform his final show at the resort on April 30, 2026, ending a 25-year run that produced more than 7 million audience members from nearly every country on earth.

“We thank David and his exceptional team for the incredible energy they’ve consistently delivered with this larger-than-life production,” said Mike Neubecker, President and COO of MGM Grand, in a statement released Thursday. “David has fascinated audiences at MGM Grand for more than 25 years, and we wish him every success as he embarks on the next chapter of his journey.”

Copperfield, 69, simultaneously posted a statement to social media framing the departure not as a retirement but as a pivot. “My journey began as a kid in New Jersey with a dream of one day making magic my life,” he wrote. “For 25 years now, I’ve been fortunate to headline at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. My last performance at the MGM will be on April 30th, and I’m excited to announce what’s next soon thereafter. It’s the largest project I’ve ever tackled, and the most challenging, too.”

Both statements were emphatic that the departure was Copperfield’s decision.

A Quarter Century on the Strip

Copperfield began performing in Las Vegas five years before his MGM Grand residency commenced in 2000, bringing his total tenure on the Strip to roughly three decades. The venue that hosted his show was renamed the David Copperfield Theater in 2013 — a rare distinction on a street where marquees change with the seasons.

Forbes has identified Copperfield as the most commercially successful stage magician in history. His MGM run — 15 performances per week in a 740-seat theater at ticket prices ranging from $86 to $126 — served as the economic and cultural benchmark for magic as a headliner genre in Las Vegas.

With 120 shows still scheduled over the next eight weeks, the residency does not end quietly. Copperfield encouraged fans to attend while they can. “Join us if you can,” he wrote, “and most importantly, know that whatever you dream about, you can achieve. This kid from Jersey certainly did, and I believe in magic now more than ever.”

Context: A Complicated Moment

The announcement arrives approximately five weeks after the Department of Justice released a cache of internal files related to Jeffrey Epstein on Jan. 30, 2026 — documents that included a 2007 FBI memo referencing Copperfield. Conjurly News reported on those documents in February.

Copperfield’s legal team has consistently and vigorously denied any close relationship with Epstein. His lawyers previously told The Guardian that any suggestion of friendship was “totally false” and that the two had met only a few times. Neither Copperfield’s statement nor MGM Grand’s statement referenced the Epstein documents or offered them as any basis for the parting.

Copperfield has also faced separate allegations of sexual misconduct over the years, all of which he has denied.

What Comes Next

Details of Copperfield’s next project remain undisclosed. He described it only as the largest and most challenging of his career and said he plans to reveal it shortly after his final MGM performance. His phrasing — “something spectacular” — suggests a project of significant scale, though whether it takes the form of a new Las Vegas residency, a touring production, a television event, or something else entirely has not been indicated.

Guests who have purchased tickets for shows scheduled after April 30 will be automatically refunded. For ticket inquiries, the MGM Grand Box Office can be reached at 702-891-3140 or MG******@*********nd.com.
