Something magical is in the works at 101 Magic Lane in St. Joseph, Missouri. Skye Pournazari of the local news outlet News-Press Now interviewed David Sandy and Lance Rich as they mark one year of work on the Magic museum and performance venue project they expect to open in summer 2027.

COUNTRY CLUB VILLAGE, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — Call them magicians or illusionists, David Sandy and Lance Rich are pulling off their biggest trick yet: bringing a magic museum and performance venue to life just north of St. Joseph — no smoke, mirrors or “alakazam” required.

For Sandy and Rich, the museum is about much more than magic tricks. It’s about preserving history, telling stories and giving visitors the same sense of wonder that first drew them to magic.

“We want to share it because we enjoy seeing those wow moments from people,” Sandy told the News-Press during a recent tour of the unfinished facility.

The collection already includes nearly 420 stage illusions, many of which are housed in boxes and cases awaiting their turn on display. Some will require restoration. Others are historically significant simply because of where they have been and who once performed with them.
